Tampa Hydro Jetting and Drain Cleaning
Tampa is big, and the North Tampa and USF side of it spans several housing eras, so we will not pretend to know the pipe under your street. We read it. A camera at the cleanout tells us whether the lateral is PVC, clay or cast iron, and the nozzle is chosen from that, not from a ZIP code.
Inside city limits, water and wastewater are provided by City of Tampa Utilities. That gives a clean dividing line for a backup: the pipe from your house to the connection is generally yours; the main in the street and its lift stations are the city's.
North Tampa Drain Cleaning: Who Owns the Blockage
When several drains in the house back up at once, the stoppage is usually on the main run. Open the cleanout. If it holds water, the blockage is downstream of it, either in your lateral or in the street. We camera the lateral to settle that. If the video shows a clear lateral, we stop and you call the city with proof.
The City of Tampa Utilities call center is 813-274-8811. Having that number before an emergency beats hunting for it at 2 a.m.

Hydro Jetting and Sewer Camera Visits Near USF
A typical North Tampa visit follows the sequence in our hydro jetting visit walkthrough: camera, jetting if the pipe allows it, then a final pass. Standard residential jetting runs $350 to $650; a main with moderate roots runs $400 to $750.
The service pages for a Tampa job are sewer camera inspection and sewer line jetting, and this rainy-season post covers why drains slow in summer. Closest pages: New Tampa, Temple Terrace and Lutz.
North Tampa, Carrollwood and USF-Area Neighborhoods We Cover
Several of these are census-designated places in unincorporated Hillsborough County rather than City of Tampa neighborhoods, so confirm the sewer provider by address.
- North Tampa — City neighborhood bordered by Nebraska Avenue on the west and University on the north; inside city limits, so City of Tampa Utilities serves it, and the lateral gets camera-checked.
- University — Unincorporated community beside USF and University Mall where student housing keeps growing; multi-unit buildings with shared drains are common, so find out which line is blocked first.
- Forest Hills — Began around a 1926 golf course, mostly citrus until 1950s and 1960s homes; larger houses now replace small ones near the lakes, so old laterals can sit under new additions.
- Carrollwood — Founded in 1959 by Sun State Homes, built out in the 1960s around Lake Carroll; the oldest laterals are six decades old, so clay or cast iron may show.
- Carrollwood Village — Unincorporated community that grew from the early 1970s around its golf course, with about 45 neighborhoods; pipe type can vary between sections, so the camera comes first.
- Lake Magdalene — Named for a 206-acre lake, with at least 11 named lakes and housing growth in the 1990s; lake lots can keep soil wet, which keeps roots active at joints.
- Northdale — Unincorporated community along North Dale Mabry Highway bordering Carrollwood and Lake Magdalene; the sewer provider depends on the street, so confirm by address before booking a camera and jet.
Tampa Roads and Landmarks Between Fowler Avenue and Dale Mabry
- Fowler Avenue (SR 582) — Main east-west road past USF and University Mall, just east of I-275, lined with stand-alone shops.
- Fletcher Avenue — Corridor north of Fowler with medical and dental offices around Fletcher East, AdventHealth Tampa, and the route to Lettuce Lake Park.
- Bearss Avenue — East-west corridor through the Lake Magdalene area, named for the Bearss family whose citrus groves once bordered it.
- North Dale Mabry Highway (SR 597) — Runs along the eastern edge of Carrollwood and Northdale and the western edge of Lake Magdalene.
- Interstate 275 — Forms the eastern edge of the Lake Magdalene area and the western edge of the University community near University Mall.
- University of South Florida — The 1,562-acre Tampa campus lies about seven miles north of downtown on the former Henderson Airfield; Moffitt Cancer Center opened there in 1986.
- Lettuce Lake Park — A 240-acre county park on Fletcher Avenue between I-75 and USF, opened in 1982, with the Hillsborough River running through it.
- AdventHealth Tampa — 626-bed hospital on East Fletcher Avenue, formerly Florida Hospital Tampa, serving the USF and Carrollwood side.
- Carrollwood Village Park — Park in Carrollwood Village with a playground, splash pad and dog park, and more than 300 trees from around the world.
Tampa Sewer and Housing Facts for Hydro Jetting
- In ZIP 33618 on the Carrollwood side, the ACS 2020-2024 5-year estimate puts median year built at 1983, with 40% of housing units built before 1980 and 54% detached homes. Four in ten homes predate 1980, so pipe material varies street to street and a camera at the cleanout shows what is there before a nozzle is chosen.
- In ZIP 33613 near USF, the same estimate shows 35% of housing units in buildings of five or more units and owners in only 5,276 of 16,515 households. Apartment-heavy areas mean shared building drains and landlord-managed lines, so a service call often starts with working out which part of the system is actually blocked.
- In ZIP 33624, the estimate gives a median year built of 1986, with 17% of units built in the 1990s and only 9% since 2000. Mid-1980s construction is likely plastic sewer pipe, so the typical findings are grease film, root entries at joints and sags rather than corroded old pipe.
- More than 900 homes were built near Lake Carroll in Carrollwood between 1959 and 1970. Laterals from the first Carrollwood subdivisions are now in their sixties, an age at which clay or cast iron, if present, can scale, crack or let roots in.
- The City of Tampa's own dashboard lists about 1,300 miles of gravity sewer and describes a seven-year cleaning cycle for those lines. The city cleans the main in the street, not the lateral from your house, so a backup between visits is usually traced with a camera at your cleanout.
- The City of Tampa wastewater system includes 30,000 manholes and more than 230 pumping stations, according to the city's dashboard. When every drain backs up but your lateral is clear on camera, the cause is likely in this public network, and the video gives the city a concrete report.

CALL 813-733-7188Hydro Jetting in Tampa: Common Questions
No. Housing here spans many eras, so we camera the line first and read the material, joints and condition directly. A PVC lateral and a clay one get different pressure and nozzles, and a broken one gets neither.
We cover 33613, 33618 and 33624, the North Tampa and USF-area side of the city. Not sure your address is in range? Call 813-733-7188 and we will tell you plainly before anyone drives out, and the price is the same as in our other areas.
If one or two fixtures are slow, it is likely your branch line. If the lowest drains back up and the cleanout is full, it may be the lateral or the main, and a camera pass at the cleanout shows which. The City of Tampa Utilities call center is 813-274-8811.
For one-off clogs a cable is often enough. For lines that keep returning, jetting removes the wall coating a cable leaves behind. Neither fixes a broken pipe. Our PSI and nozzles guide explains how jetting is set up for the pipe in front of us.
Yes, 24/7. Sewage coming up inside the house, or a toilet and tub that back up together, is the main reason to call at night. We give the written price before work starts, even on an emergency visit, and a camera pass is available.
